Tower Hamlets Lib Dems, and about 60 local residents attended a meeting in the Tramshed this week to discuss the problem of dangerous dogs in the Borough. During the meeting the Council's enforcement service was criticised and more action was demanded to deal with this very serious issue.
In Weavers ward, residents living near St Matthew's church have an ongoing problem, reported to the Council in relation to three dogs, owned by one person. These dogs have killed local residents' pets in the churchyard, the Council have been made aware of this and as yet, no action has been taken. At the meeting, local resident Geoff Juden stated; "Nothing has been done, and a child could be mauled this very evening" Mr Juden told Labour Councillor Bill Turner who chaired the meeting that he would be responsible should this happen.
Liberal Democrat Councillors from Weavers ward are asking residents to keep records of attacks by vicious dogs and to let us know when and where they happen. We will work with the police, tenants and residents associations, housing associations and neighbourhood managers to ensure that action is taken against the owners of dangerous dogs.
