Lobbying in New Labour is widespread - Masroor

"The allegations of lobbying within New Labour comes as no surprise to the majority of normal people who have become accustomed to New Labour's record of self interest and deceit", commented Ajmal Masroor, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Bethnal Green and Bow.

"The former Blairites who have been suspended from the Labour party have certainly confirmed how the government and Labour party have been operating over the past 13 years. It is sad that political patronage and lobbying have become the culture of New Labour nationally, and it is not surprising seeing as many of our local councillors in Tower Hamlets are openly employed by business lobbies. Labour council's all over London are run by a network of patronage, political favours and influential lobbies. This culture needs to change into one where politicians are concerned only with the public interest, and the Liberal Democrats intend to lead this change in the coming election."

"Our Democracy must be kept rich with transparency, honesty and accountability", concluded Ajmal Masroor
