Liberal Democrat campaigners Dave Campbell, Paolo Adragna and Mohammed Rafique today questioned the failure of Tower Hamlets Council to keep streets clear of rubbish.
During a regular walk around the ward the campaigners noted a number of overflowing bins, rubbish dumped in public spaces and generally low levels of cleanliness. Speaking of the situation in Bow East, Mohammed Rafique said "This Council spends a fortune on waste management but there still seems to be a lack of attention paid to this area". Paolo Adragna added "The Borough needs to recycle more to help protect the environment but we saw clear evidence of bins full of mixed rubbish, contaminated with food and unfit for recycling".
Dave Campbell spoke for the team when he concluded "The Council needs to ensure that the waste management programme is effective. Local people should not see overflowing bins and rubbish on streets near their homes. It's not good enough."
