Bow East Liberal Democrat Campaigners, Rafique Ullah, Dave Campbell and Paolo Adragna this week spoke out in support of libraries and books for young children. Speaking in the Bow Idea Store, Dr Paolo Adragna said "Books are a fundamental tool for learning. A child can touch a book, turn its pages, and linger on the pictures and story. A computer can never replace the experience of reading a book for a young child".
The Liberal Democrats are campaigning for the children's book budgets in Tower Hamlets to be protected from cuts in the coming years. Rafique Ullah commented "My grandchildren need the best possible start in life and they can only get this from having access to a wide range of stimulating and fun books. We will push the Council very hard to ensure we have plenty of books for all the Borough's children".
The Bow East Liberal Democrat campaigners spoke with Mums and children at the Idea Store and afterwards Liberal Democrat spokesperson Dave Campbell said "I was really impressed by how keen the kids were to read. It's obvious they love their books and that computers will never replace them completely."
